The
Project 1171 Tapir Large Landing Ship (Bol'shoy Desatnyy Korabl' - BDK) is a beachable,
general-purpose LST-type design with bow and stern ramps for unloading vehicles.
Produced in at least four different types beginning in 1966, there are numerous
variations in detail between units. Many have been retired, and remaining units
may be in reserve, given the Russian Navy's decreased emphasis on amphibious operations.
Large Landing Ship BDK-10 laid down on 05 February 1964 at the Yantar Shipyard,
Kaliningrad (yard No.291), launched on 01 July 1964, commissioned on 18 August
1966 and was assigned to the Black Sea Fleet. From 22.02.1967 - Voronezhsky
komsomolets, from 15.02.1992 - BDK-65, from 26.07.2003 - Saratov. On 24
March 2022, the large landing ship Saratov, which was unloading at the port of
Berdyansk (Ukraine) as part of the Black Sea Fleet warships group, was damaged
by fire and accompanying explosions. Having received damage to the hull, the ship
sank at the berth in the port of Berdyansk. Specifications |
