The
Yuriy Ivanov-class (Project 18280) is a new type of Russian intelligence collection
ship. The ship is designed by the JSC "Central Design Bureau Iceberg".
The displacement of the ship is more than 4000 tons, the cruising range not less
than 8 thousand miles. The hull and superstructures are built using steel. The
Project 18280-class intelligence ships are armed with two MTPU 14,5mm marine pedestal
machine-gun mounts located on the deck. The machine guns are effective against
lightly armoured surface, coastal and air targets flying at distances of up to
2 km. The vessel is also equipped with six 9K38 Igla surface-to-air missile system
(SAM) launchers consisting of up to 32 9M39 missiles to defend fixed-wing aircraft
and helicopters. The ship on its performance characteristics and capabilities
is considerably superior to similar vessels of previous generations mainly due
to the versatility and high level of automation and systems integration. The Yuri
Ivanov-class is equipped with navigation and radar systems for use in reconnaissance
and electronic intelligence missions. The intelligence ship was named after
vice-admiral Ivan Khurs (09.29.1922- 12.28.2002), who contributed to organizing
and developing of the permanent naval intelligence service of the Soviet Navy.
Intelligence ship Ivan Khurs laid down on 14 November 2013 at the Severnaya
Verf, St. Petersburg (yard No.788), launched on 16 May 2017, and commissioned
on 18 June 2018. Now in service.
